BLAZESPORTS HAMBURG

The Town of Hamburg Recreation Department recently applied for and was accepted as a BlazeSports America community. BlazeSports America is an organization dedicated to maximizing the potential of people with physical disability through sport. As a BlazeSports club we have made a commitment to develop programs of this nature and will be showcasing our plans at the BlazeSports open house on October 7th.

ADAPTIVE SPORTS CLINICS
FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL, SOCCER, GENERAL SPORTS & ACTIVITIES

Goal: To provide the participants with a general knowledge of the various listed sport, through a variety of skill development stations.

NFL JUNIOR PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

The Town of Hamburg Recreation Department, in cooperation with the Buffalo Bills will offer the JUNIOR PLAYER DEVELOPMENT (J.P.D) program in the Spring of 2008. J.P.D. is an introductory/developmental youth tackle football program for 12 –14 year olds. The program is designed to teach every participant, every position, through a step-by-step progression of skill instruction packaged in a re-adaptive, Fun and Safe environment. Equipment for the program is loaned to the participants of the NFL/JPD. For more information about J.P.D. and registration, please contact the Town of Hamburg Recreation Department at 646-5145.

(A program of the National Alliance for Youth Sports)

Tee-Level Golf Training Program
(A program of the National Alliance for Youth Sports)

A week long clinic in which qualified youngsters will receive instruction, a starter set of golf clubs, golf balls, a member bag tag and a golf shirt. The clinic covers all aspects of the game including swing fundamentals, chipping, putting rules, etiquette, golf course maintenance, and drug awareness. This program is highlighted by an end-of-the-week golf outing in which parents, guardians, or sponsors are able to participate with youngsters in their first on-course golf experience.

Green Level Golf Training Program
(A program of the National Alliance for Youth Sports and Hook a Kid on Golf.)

Designed for youth ages (8-15) who have basic introduction to the game but are not ready for on course play. The Green Level Training Program provides a practical training on the rules, etiquette and course management that a beginner needs prior to playing on the golf course.

This program is for individuals who have been through or who are going through the Green Level Training Program. This is a team oriented league program modeled after other successful youth sports programs in which coaches are on hand.

Character Council of Hamburg

The Town of Hamburg Recreation Department supports the mission of the Character Council movement in Hamburg. Character development has become an integral part of our staff development and should be reflected in our interactions with patrons and participants. The National Alliance for Youth Sports, of which we are an active chapter, strongly addresses character issues in youth sports programming.

National Alliance For Youth Sports (NAYS)

The Town of Hamburg Recreation Department is an active chapter of NAYS. NAYS is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving youth sports. NAYS programming offered in the Town of Hamburg include the following:

Education

NYSCA (National Youth Sports Coaches Association)

Training volunteer youth coaches on how to work with children in all aspects of sports. Coaches receive training, continuing education, excess liability insurance coverage, and is held accountable to a code of ethics when coaching.

PAYS (Parents Association of Youth Sports)

A Program featuring innovative materials and information for youth programs to utilize which help to make parents aware of their roles and responsibilities in youth sports.

NYSAA (The National Youth Sports Administrators Association)

The NYSAA works to assist volunteer administrators, league presidents and board members in their efforts to set high standards and provide a safe, positive experience for the youth they serve.

Youth Development

Hook a Kid on Golf

Through its Tee Level Introductory Clinics and Challenge Golf Leagues, Hook A Kid On Golf provides communities with a comprehensive youth golf program.

START SMART Sports Development Program

START SMART brings parents and children ages 3 and older together in an instructional program that teaches parents how to best teach their children skills that will give them a positive and successful start in sports.

The Town of Hamburg is continuing its effort to develop further NAYS initiatives. Currently a Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) is on staff. This individual assists local independent youth sports organizations with all aspects of NAYS programming. In addition our CYSA will implement a plan to raise community standards in youth sports based on recommendation from a National Summit.
