Youth Bureau
The Town of Hamburg Youth Bureau was established in 1967 to assist area residents and law enforcement agencies in handling problems involving its youth population.
The Youth Bureau's main objective is to coordinate available services to youth, and to aid in delinquency prevention programs in the community. It is the main referral for all services to youth in Hamburg Township.
The Hamburg Youth Bureau is now located in the Frontier Community Learning Center, 4540 Southwestern Blvd.

Programs and Services
Counseling
Youth & Family Counseling is provided at the Youth Bureau by Mary Eisenhauer and Tamara Franz, who provide asistance to youth and families in crisis or who need a safe place to express some thoughts and feelings. Services are free and confidential.
Family Counseling is also provided at the Family Support Center of Hamburg (646-3356). Our Counselors from Frontier and Hamburg Schools and other Community-based agencies to provide short term counseling for individuals, couples families and groups.
Youthful Offender Program
Collins/Albion Correctional Programs are conducted by staff and inmates at the 2 correctionsl facilities, small groups of youth are taken to meet for four hours with inmates. During theses sessions, the consequences of poorly thought out decisions are seen first-hand and discussed dramatically.
Choices
(Responsible Decision-making Class) offers a 3 hour workshop utilizing small group discussion, activity worksheets, and a video presentation to explore personal choices and consequences. Referrals from Court. Costs $50-residents, and $60 non-residents.
The Town of Hamburg Community Service Program assists youth in fulfilling cummunity service hours mandated by the Courts or Juvenile Officer.
24 Hour Relay
An annual drug, alcohol and tobacco free celebration of community and self. Takes place the first weekend of June. Teams of 10 take turns walking or running a mile each throughout the 24 hour period challenging them to reach inside themselves and discover what they're made of. Monies raised through the relay benefit youth organizations in the Town of Hamburg.
Awareness Program
Peer Listening - Frontier and Hamburg High School students attend a 2 day training and ongoing meetings throughout the school year addressing issues important to youth. The peer listeners are trained to help their friends and peers with problems by listening and to refer serious problems to trained professionals.
Peer Helping - Hamburg 5th graders attend a 2 day summer taining program to serve as tutors, special buddies, and new student orienteers in their schools.
Conflict Resolution - Assistance is provided to elementary schools with their conflict resolution curriculums in grades K, 3, and 4.
Girls Only! - Summer Day Camp and monthly meetings with females at the Middle School to empower them to make healthy choices and learn about themselves.
Kids Clothes Closet
Gently used clothing available at no charge, for infants to teens. Located in the basement of Hamburg Town Hall. Appointments for pick up made be made by calling 649-6111 ext 2220 Monday thru Friday, between 9:30am - 4:30pm.
Contracted Services
Project Y.E.S. (Youth Engaged in Service)
Young people, ages 12-21, volunteer with their peers to help the elderly, persons who are handicapped, young children, fellow community members, and local organizations. This volunteerism strengthens our youths ties to their community. YES fulfills the need to be needed. The YES Advisory Board, made up of students, helps plan and run YES activities. Monthly newsletters are mailed directly to the volunteer with the choices for that month. All time spent volunteering is tracked and recorded for future needs of the student. Youth at Risk Program
Under a grant from the N.Y.S. Education Department, the Frontier School District is contracting with the Youth Bureau to provide this innovative and comprehensive program focused at Frontier High School.
Catholic Charities High School Dropout Program
Area high school dropouts are contacted and offered alternatives (high shcool equivilancy, tutoring, possible employment, training programs) through individual as well as family counseling.
Early School Intervention Service
Also offered through Catholic Charities, this began in September of 1979 as a primary referral source for "high risk" youths and their families.
Hamburg Counseling Service
Offers direct counseling for a variety of problems. The Counseling Center is affiliated with the Erie County Department of Health and also with New York State Department of Mental Hygiene.
